SHINee greets fans for their third anniversary

In celebration of the group's third anniversary, SM Entertainment has uploaded a message from SHINee on their Youtube channel. SHINee's fans have been celebrating the date across the Internet, and the video was quickly translated into English.

SHINee debuted on May 25, 2008 with "Noona Is So Pretty (Replay)", which earned them a devoted fan following. They have since released two full albums and two mini albums in Korea, and earlier this year held their first-ever concerts in Seoul and Tokyo. The group is currently attempting to enter the Japanese music industry with re-releases of "Replay" and "Hello".

In the video, posted below, member Jonghyun comments that he watched their debut stage again and was shocked at how "young" they looked, explaining that they have matured a lot since debut. Taemin and Onew asked fans to come see them at the Dream Concert this Saturday, and the group promised to continue working hard in both Korea and Japan.

Following the Dream Concert, SHINee will continue to prepare for their Japanese debut.

Second SM Town Live in Paris concert sells out in minutes

Several days ago, Koreaboo reported that SM Entertainment added one more date to “SM Town Live in Paris”. For the first concert, all 6,000 seats were sold out within 15 minutes of their release. After heavy protesting from French K-Pop fans, SM decided to add one more concert on June 11th.

The ticket sales for the second concert began on Monday, May 16th. Even faster than the first concert, the tickets were completely sold out within 10 minutes of their release. Online ticketing agencies such as Live Nation and Fnac experienced heavy traffic and crashed temporarily.

Aside from their concerts in Europe, SM Town Live concerts are also held in Seoul, Los Angeles, Tokyo, and Shanghai. They will be heading to the Tokyo Dome on September 3rd and 4th.

SHINee Interview Elle Girl Korea June 2011

SHINee and photoshoot staff with Yukiko (in the middle)

About a year ago, Elle Girl Japan asked for related materials and our opinions in their preparation for an article on K-pop. One of the questions was which boy group’s debut in Japan is most expected, and Elle Girl Korea’s answer was SHINee.

The five slim boys’ slogan, “(we are) a contemporary band,” was elusive in the beginning, but now the public understands what it means intuitively. In their pursuit of what is new and best in everything from music and performance to fashion, SHINee was born to be global.

The joint interview both magazines have planned on for months was made in a studio in Shinsa-dong on an April afternoon. An Elle Girl Japan editor came over to Seoul to meet with SHINee whose debut in Japan had been scheduled, and set the place for the meeting with the five members with Elle Girl Korea.

There was a bit of tension as people communicated in Japanese, English and Korean in the studio, but when SHINee came in, the atmosphere became livelier. The members looked in a good condition, maybe because they were resting well during a break. They showed no hint of exhaustion or nervousness while greeting the staff and talking about the photoshoot.

During their interview with Elle Girl Japan, they showed off their Japanese and introduced themselves excitedly as if they were back to their debut days. In the following photoshoot, they left behind their usual attitude as ‘chic fashionistas’ and acted free like backstage ‘rock boys.’ The five members laughed, played with each other, and made expressions unseen before. Whether it was because they liked the photoshoot together for a magazine pictorial they didn’t have for a long time, or because they were excited about their debut in Japan, they were full of restless and positive energy.

After the photoshoot was finished, I asked Yukiko, the Elle Girl Japan editor, how she felt about SHINee. “I watched SHINee’s performances through Youtube and had an impression they are very stylish. On today’s meeting, the different personalities of the five members seemed to have synergy. They are cute, professional, and awesome.”

SHInee will start their promotions as their Japanese debut single Replay is released on 22 June. The Japanese version of “Noona Is So Pretty” must melt Japanese noonas’s hearts. I feel sorry about having fewer chances to see them in Korea, but look forward to seeing their shining performances on new stages. I hope they will enjoy it truly most of all, like they did today!

Following France, Peru has stepped up as the country that’s vocalized its hunger for K-pop. Peruvian K-pop fans are asking for an “SM TOWN Live Concert“, and they’ve organized an “Open an SMTOWN” flash mob to bring some attention to their wish.
Approximately 500 fans got together in Lima’s Monterrico with large signs that read “SMTOWN IN PERU”, as well as the names of their favorite K-pop artists. They sang along to SNSD and SHINee’s songs, wore SNSD’s stage outfits, and made quite the overall statement.
On May 16th, a YouTube account uploaded a video pleading SM Entertainment to bring SMTOWN to Peru. Not only did it catch the attention of local radio and media outlets, but those in Korea as well.
The YouTube uploader said in an email interview on the 17th, “The people at the flash mob are just one chunk of the K-pop fans in Peru. On the 22nd, there will be events held in Lima, Arequipa, Ica, Cusco and more. We are looking for a bigger space in Lima to have an event. I hope Korea can see how many K-pop fans are in Peru.”

The fans are also speaking out through Facebook, Twitter and other blogging sites. The “SMTOWN IN PERU” Facebook page alone has 6,000 fans.
SM Entertainment stated, “We were so touched by and thankful of the warm support of Peruvian fans from across the world. We hope there will be a chance to perform in South America and meet the fans.”

SHINee - Hello [Japanese Version]

SHINee, Rainbow, 5dolls and more added to Dream Concert’s line-up

As the date of the “Dream Concert 2011” comes closer, more artists have confirmed their participation in what could be called the most anticipated K-pop concert of the year.

At the start of this month, Koreaboo reported a list of around 19 artists announced at Dream Concert’s official website and Twitter. Since then, more artists have been added and the confusion with ZE:A and Brown Eyed Girls’ Jea has also been cleared up.

In the new line-up, nor ZE:A or Jea are listed as performers, while Kim Taewoo, Eru, Flower, Seo Inkook, 5dolls, Rainbow and SHINee have been added as confirmed acts.

Sadly, it was previously announced that CNBLUE would be performing but now the group doesn’t appear in the list of performers or in the image slideshow featured at the top of Dream Concert’s official website.

On their Twitter, organizers had also announced the addition of A Pink but three hours later they said their appearance had been cancelled.

The new updates leaves us with a line-up of 23 artists, which includes 2PM, 5dolls, FT Island, f(x), miss A, Kim Taewoo, TVXQ, Rainbow, BEAST, SHINee, Seo Inkook, Secret, SISTAR, IU, After School, U-Kiss, Eru, G.NA, KARA, K-Will, T-ara, 4Minute, and Flower.

The “Dream Concert 2011” will be held at the Seoul World Cup Stadium on May 28th at 6:30PM with a run time of around three and a half hours. The concert will be recorded and broadcasted on KBS at a later date.

SHINee to Perform at MTV Award in Japan [2011-05-13]

Star singers including Lady Gaga will hold performances for fundraising to help earthquake recovery in Japan.
Star singing group SHINee will participate in the MTV Awards in Japan as a representative Korean singing group. MTV Korea said on May 12, “SHINee has been solely invited to the ‘MTV Video Music Aid Japan (VMAJ)’ to be held at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba Prefecture in Japan on June 25 at 6 pm.” MTV Korea continued, “SHINee attracted around 24,000 fans to their concert in Japan last December, and news reporters have shown great interest in covering their stories as their first single album in Japan entitled ‘Replay’ will be released next month.”
MTV Japan hosts music awards with the title of “MTV Video Music Award Japan” every year, but this year’s title for the music awards, which will be co-hosted with Red Cross in Japan to assist the victims from the recent major earthquake, will be “MTV Video Music Aid Japan.” Star singing groups including foreign singers such as Lady Gaga and German band group Tokio Hotel, and Japanese star singing groups such as AK848, Exile, and Monkey Magic will participate in the award ceremony. Girls Generation, who had actively held performances in Japan last year, was nominated in the three categories of “Best Group Video,” ”Best Video of the Year,” and “Best Karaoke Song,” but they will not participate in the ceremony. The MTV awards will be broadcast live in a total of nine Asian countries including Japan, Korea, China, Singapore, Malaysia, and Hong Kong. The winners will be decided solely based on the online and mobile voting, which will be conducted through MTV Japan’s official website (http://www.mtvjapan.com/vmaj), and the participants of the voting will automatically donate 10 yen to help in earthquake recovery.
